one hundred messages
From the very first moment they laid eyes on each other, Renee and Ziyad knew they were meant to be. Renee was living in their hometown of Halifax when Ziyad, who was living in Toronto at the time, added her to his Facebook list of friends. A week later, Ziyad noticed on her page that she was travelling to Toronto for work and couldn’t resist messaging her about the trip. “One message turned into one hundred messages within a week. One hundred messages then turned into thirty-five hours of phone conversations over the following week. Ziyad came to Halifax for a visit that weekend and of course asked me out on a date. Six months later we were engaged!” recalls Renee.
Anne Anderson of Anne Anderson Events assisted the couple in planning their September 5, 2009 wedding day which took place in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Renee wore a Kenneth Pool gown from Dina Alonzi Bridal. Her bridesmaids wore lavender gowns by Dina Bar-El.
Their Halifax church was turned into a forest fairyland by Inglis Flower World. Hydrangea monograms hung on the doors leading into the church and at the end of the ceremony the guests showered the newlyweds with lavender rose petals.
The lavender theme continued with the reception at Halifax’s World Trade and Convention Centre. Upon entering the venue, the fun began as guests had their photos taken on a “white carpet” behind stanchions that were draped with crystal garlands. The backdrop by Golden Dog Art Dept. was stamped with the custom made logo. The photos were played during the reception on two large screens. Cocktails were served in two custom lavender tents with white leather lounge furniture (shipped from Toronto). Yards of sheer white curtains then opened to reveal the dining room, awash in dramatic purple light, flowers and crystals.
sweet ending
Their statuesque six tier cake by Gourmandises Avenue Patisserie was a crystal covered masterpiece.
A decadent dinner was enjoyed by the couple and their guests. “We had a gourmet menu including an anti pasta platter, beef tenderloin, shrimp and scallops, lavender sorbet (detailed with our initials) and a trio of our favourite desserts including a molten lava chocolate cake, Dulce de Leche creme brulée and vanilla bean ice cream. We served late night snacks after eleven including mini Kobe beef burgers and sweet potato fries served in cones (with our logo). We also had a dessert buffet which included cheesecake lollipops, macaroon trees, and mini ice cream cones all in lavender and cream!” recalls Renee.
Guests danced the night away under hundreds of strings of crystals hanging over the dance floor.
The couple honeymooned in Europe traveling to Frankfurt, Santorini, Athens, and Barcelona. They now reside in Toronto.
