parisian proposal
Monika and Troy were best friends in high school; but it wasn’t until seven years later when Monika came home for the summer from Krakow (where she was enrolled in her first year of medical school) that the couple fell in love. After a year and a half of dating, they were engaged in Europe.

“Troy surprised me with a weekend in Paris, France. It was the most perfect weekend. We enjoyed walking around Paris, having lunch under the Eiffel Tower, visiting all the romantic sights. On the night of April 19th, a fancy black car picked us up from the hotel and we drove through the streets of Paris. The car finally stopped at the Seine River, pulling up to a beautiful yacht. Troy had made dinner reservations on the yacht that would take us down the Seine, discovering Paris by night. At 10pm we were passing the Eiffel Tower and it was sparkling! So I begged that we go onto the bow of the yacht to take some pictures. It was just the two of us enjoying the most romantic moment of my life. (Little did I know!) Before I knew it, Troy was down on one knee asking for my hand in marriage. So overwhelmed with love and joy I jumped into his arms with a YES! It was better then any dream!” remembers Monika.

upon reflection
Monika and Troy worked with Angela Girard from Reflection Events to plan their August 15, 2009 nuptials. An event planner was pivotal for Monika since the Vancouver wedding was orchestrated while she was in Krakow finishing her medical degree. “I’m such a perfectionist that I didn’t want anything to be lost in translation while I was away.”

little details

The couple chose a colour scheme of turquoise and black and white damask that was carried through on several design elements including the programmes (designed by the couple themselves). At the ceremony, guests received tiny bottles of bubbles wrapped with turquoise satin ribbon.

something special
Monika wore a custom-designed ivory silk taffeta gown by Vancouver designer Kathryn Bass from Ivory Bridal Boutique. Her ‘something new’ was also something very special–a pearl and diamond bracelet given to her by her Grandfather upon graduation from medical school. “It was so special to me on the wedding day because both my Grandfather and Grandmother (Dziadek & Babcia) could not make it from Poland because of health issues; I loved the fact that I could wear such a beautiful piece of jewelry from them, making them part of our big day!”

floral fashionista

Floral designer Patricia Navarro of Vivio Flowers worked with Monika to bring her all-white floral vision to life. “I wanted all white, classy and clean but at the same time grand. My bouquet was huge but I loved every bit of it!” remembers Monika.

couture cake

The six-tier confectionary masterpiece by BC Cakes was decorated with white and ‘Tiffany’ blue fondant detailing. It was comprised of two delicious cake flavours: red velvet and lemon with fresh raspberries. Both were filled with white buttercream filling and finished with a raspberry coulis on top.

black tie
The bridesmaids wore black strapless pleated cocktail dresses by Armani. Troy and his groomsmen changed into black ties for the formal reception.

european inspiration
“Being engaged in, and having a love for travelling in Europe, we really wanted a European feel to our wedding—powerful, elegant and romantic. That is exactly what we achieved at the reception in the ballroom of The Vancouver Club. Our guests were seated at four long tables and we named the tables by our favourite countries (Poland, Hungary, Italy and France),” recalls Monika. The room was elegantly decorated by Upright Decor with crystal candelabras, diamond crystal votives, sterling silver chargers and champagne table runners.

In true Parisian style, each of the ladies received a blue silk fan at their place setting. Each guest received a round ‘Tiffany’ blue box (pictured above) with a white ribbon, to fill up with their choice of candy from a Candy Bar. The couple honeymooned in Montego Bay, Jamaica at the Iberostar Grand. Monika and Troy now reside in Port Moody, BC.
