modern elegance
As a partner at InBloom Event Design Shayna Segal and her fiancé Dan had big plans of their own for their July 18, 2009 wedding! Shayna and her sisters Melanie and Joelle (all three partners of the company) set their sights on a Vintage Circus themed wedding à la Barnum and Bailey in the 1900’s. For Shayna, the idea was a lifetime in the making. “It was a collection of whimsical ideas and inspirations I’ve been unknowingly collecting for years. My passion for the circus arts has been a huge part of my life. I have been performing and teaching for the last eight years. I’ve always had a love of vintage design elements thanks to my Mom who refurbished antique furniture throughout her life. Doilies were a love of hers that she passed on to each of my sisters. Adding doilies and her antique wood tables and chairs to the wedding design was my way of bringing my Mom’s spirit to the wedding.”

simple magical circus fun
The couple were married during a candlelight ceremony under a cluster of three maple trees as ribbons and lanterns swayed in the evening breeze. Guests were treated to a reception featuring ‘simple, magical circus fun,’ which included all sorts of old-school treats including cotton candy, candy apples and a soda bar. The revelry continued with a photo booth complete with a tickle trunk of costumes! Topping off the fun was a real-life miniature pony named Spyke who was happy to pose with the guests! “I wasn’t really sure if people would be willing to dress up when they were all done up in their wedding attire. But the amount of adults in costumes, having fun and playing around was incredible! I was so thrilled that we inspired people to have fun and let loose,” recalls Shayna. Inside the white circus tent there were groupings of small wooden tables with mis-matched chairs. Projections of of old circus footage illuminated the tent walls as an old-fashioned popcorn machine popped away in the corner.

yummy ending
Shayna’s Grandparents provided homemade jam favors in an assortment of mouthwatering flavours including strawberry, raspberry, peach ginger, red current and blueberry. A very sweet ending to a fun-filled magical night.
