Shelby & Graeme

A PERFECT PROPOSAL
Shelby and Graeme were married on June 23, 2011 at THE ROYAL ONTARIO MUSEUM.

The pair first met when they were children and became friends. “We then fell out of touch for about ten years (Graeme was off to Italy and England and I was living in DC).” The pair immediately re-connected when they found themselves back in Toronto.

Graeme proposed to Shelby in New York City. The couple were staying in a suite at
The Four Seasons hotel. After opening some champagne, Graeme explained to Shelby that he had bought her a present. “He had actually bought me the most gorgeous yellow dress. He wanted to make sure I was completely surprised when he asked me to marry him a few moments later—and I was! We then had the most wonderful dinner at Daniel. In short it was perfect!” recalls Shelby.

FASHION NOTES
On their wedding day, Shelby wore the “Eliza” gown by Vera Wang from VERA WANG TORONTO. The gown was completely customized for Shelby. (It had a modified
sweetheart neckline, no belt, no pleats, extra beading, etc.) Graeme wore Zegna.

The ten bridesmaids each wore a long white dress from WHITE TORONTO. Each
attendant chose a different style to suit her individual taste.

DESIGN AND DECOR
The wedding was planned by Melissa Haggerty of SPECTACULARSPECTACULAR.

Shelby’s dad was the driving force behind the wedding. He put so much thought and love into every aspect of the celebration and really wanted the wedding to exceed anything Shelby could ever wish for. Shelby’s dad had the chuppah made when Shelby’s sister got married a few years ago—there are four kids in the Austin family (and four sides on a chuppah); when each child gets married, their names (and husband’s of course) are embroidered in Hebrew on one of the side panels.

The decor was a joint collaboration with two of Toronto’s leading floral designers working together for the first time, for this event. Together, Bill Fulghum of WILLIAM FULGHUM AND DESIGN ASSOCIATES and Lidia Tacconelli of FIORI FLORAL created a dreamy all-white decor and floral palette for the wedding day. Everything in the room was white with gold accents, including even the appetizer—a white asparagus and sea bream pairing.

"We had the most beautiful decor that I have ever seen at a wedding, but the best part, without a doubt, was finishing the day just being married to Graeme." -Shelby

The ceremony took place in the Bronfman Hall room at the ROM. A very long white
carpet was placed down the aisle, lined with hundreds of hydrangea on either side.

“We used flowers everywhere. Much of the decor was done with flowers, but Bill really planned everything with an attention to detail that is astounding. Bill is an example of why one hires vendors—if you trust them and provide them with freedom, they will come up with the most gorgeous designs and ideas,” recalls Shelby.

ENCHANTED EVENING
The reception was filled with many fun details, including an elaborate dessert presentation. After dinner, the couple and their guests were entertained by a Same-Day Edit (a short film recapping the entire wedding day) presented by CLOUD NINE CREATIVE. “The Same-Day Edit was breathtaking. The team at Cloud Nine were the best!” recalls Shelby.

Later on, a dance crew performed (a surprise gift from Shelby’s parents). Not one, but two after-parties followed the reception. Both were held in different rooms at the ROM and decorated with a darker scheme (black and bronze). The couple travelled to Tanzania and Mozambique for their honeymoon. They now reside in Toronto.
