| in colourful context Alicia and Alex had been dating for nine years before they tied-the-knot at a super-fun and ultra-funky wedding in Vancouver on August 3, 2008. The couple both work in the creative and colourful field of animation (Alicia, an Animation Production Manager and Alex, an Animation Director). Both wanted their wedding to be atypical in every facet. “Alex and I both wanted our wedding to be one giant extravagant cocktail party and not a stuffy, sit-down, traditional and formal wedding that we were so used to attending.” The first order of the day was colour. And lots of it. The bride wore a sexy sheath gown by Something Blue and was inspired by Carrie Bradshaw’s recent nuptials with deep red, black and hot pink feathers in her hair. Makeup artist Anita Ho created an electric look for Alicia who wanted something dramatic for her wedding day styling. Even the gents got into the act and donned hot pink accessories. The groomsmen all wore Hermes and Holt Renfrew ties ranging in colour from hot pink to deep red. Alex even wore hot pink Calvin Klein socks and donned swarovski-encrusted cufflinks in shades of red and pink. Alex designed a “superhero” logo which featured cartoon versions of the couple with their common initial, “A.” The logo was then applied to everything (including such eye-popping applications as being painted onto the backs of two naked servers). The painted servers passed out a collection of tiny gourmet comfort foods all night long including mini burgers, grill cheese sandwiches, fish & chips, mini fruit pies and ice cream bars. To keep their guests on their toes and wildly entertained, the couple hired two contortionists who danced and performed an aerial acrobatic routine with a beautiful red silk scarf. The fun continued with the couple’s first dance which was choreographed by David Yates and Diane Garceau from Night and Day Dance and was an homage to Saturday Night Fever.
