an inviting proposal
Chris proposed to Joanne at a stationery store (Papyrus) during rush hour in Hong Kong’s financial district. He had a custom “wedding invitation card” made months before, but rather than it being an invitation it was a marriage proposal to Joanne. The store clerks at Papyrus agreed to post it on their cork board along with many other examples of wedding invitations. Then a few hours later while shopping, Chris suggested to Joanne that they go into Papyrus and look at custom stationery (Joanne is a big stationery fan)! After several minutes, Joanne spotted the card on the tack board and Chris got down on one knee and proposed.

long distance love
Principal Event Planner Erin Norman of Fuego Events planned a day for Joanne and Chris that reflected the jet set lifestyle this couple had grown accustomed to during their courtship. The reception, which was held at the Sutton Place Hotel carried a distinct travel theme throughout. After being in a long-distance relationship during their entire courtship (three years with Chris living in Houston and Joanne living in London, followed by two years with Chris in San Francisco and Joanne in Hong Kong) it meant that the couple had travelled many times to see each other. The two had met up in over twenty-three cities during their courtship! Each of their twenty-two guest tables were named after a particular city that they had visited together. To further enhance the travel theme, miniature luggage tags in the shape of airplanes greeted each guest at their place setting as a name-card favor.

french garden in vancouver
Upright Decor was on-site to set the stage for a French
Garden theme. Tall glass vases with dramatic uplighting glowed in the upstairs lobby of the hotel during the cocktail reception and tall tables with white tuxedo linen were draped with blush shimmer overlays. The ballroom was awash in purple uplights which provided a warm ambience.

luxury in the details
The five-tier traditional wedding cake featured individual fruit-cakes made from scratch, coated with marzipan and icing. The cake was decorated with a cascade of sugar flowers, roses, cattleya orchids, sweet pea, lilies of the valley, and morning glories and was lovingly made by Lilly Lee (mother of the groom, Vancouver) and decorated by Gloria Bargent (aunt of the groom who resides in England).

The couple honeymooned in Maui, Hawaii at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua and The Hana Hotel and now reside in San Francisco where Joanne is a Business Development Executive and Chris is a Portfolio Manager.
